Unperfect Choices

What the f*ck is this all about then? glad you asked (you probably didn’t but as you’re on this page that’s what you’re getting).

It started with these two post-it notes:

More choice is not good choice, and Less is more

And it evolved into Unperfect choices.

Where we explore the power

  • of being unperfect,

  • in unchoosing, and

  • doing the unpossible.

It’ll be little slices of behavioural economics, the paradox of choice, degrowth and working smarter, not harder.

About the author

Hi, I’m Emma.

I’ve worked in tech and design for over 26 years. I’m now entering the third chapter of my career (isn’t it fun to have a nice blank page every now and then?)

My first chapter was in tech support. Which is where my love of explaining things so people understand them and reverse engineering comes from. I talked my way into a job on a help desk when I was 20 instead of going to university.

Spent about 7 years fixing computers but just got super frustrated by how badly designed things were. Which led to my second chapter.

I decided to jump over to the other side, where I got to create the strategy and design products. In this space I found an absolute joy in asking “what’s the problem we’re trying to solve” then finding delectably simple solutions to complex problems.

But there’s only so long you can stay down in the trenches (well, at least with a brain like mine), before you want a stronger seat at the table.

Which leads me to chapter three. And as I’m on page one of chapter three, I’ve yet to write what this looks like. Want to help me shape what that looks like?
